The identification problem

Field equipment needed to match the control room

The end user recognized each air cannon by the identifier shown in the control room, but the existing numbers on the air cannons and control solenoids did not match that naming system. The project required a new coordinated set of physical identifiers.

The order used three matching ranges from 001 through 200. That format supports a practical mapping system in which the same number can follow each logical air-cannon point across multiple physical locations—for example, the air cannon, its control solenoid or enclosure, and a third panel, documentation or control reference.

Because plant systems are often modified over time, Custom Cutouts can also manufacture these kits from an approved nonsequential spreadsheet rather than forcing the customer into a new numbering sequence.

Cut-through construction does not make a tag immune to every condition—openings can still pack with heavy material—but it preserves the physical character shape and can make the identifier easier to clear, see by contrast or feel when dust, fines, paint or residue would hide a surface-only mark.

Production

600 variable parts produced in a few business days

The order arrived on Thursday and shipped the following Thursday. With Labor Day falling on Monday, the project moved from order to shipment in only four working days after the order date.

The fiber-laser workflow allowed each tag to receive a different cut-through identifier while holding the same diameter, hole location, character height and bridge design across the full run.

Large identification projects create a second problem after manufacturing: the installer must be able to find the right tags without mixing hundreds of nearly identical parts.

We separated the 600 tags into six bundles of 100, protected the finished stainless surfaces, and placed the bundles in a foam-lined waterproof hard-shell case. A custom engraved stainless plaque on the lid identified the kit for the customer.

The case turns the order into a controlled field kit. It protects the tags during shipment, gives the installation crew a durable place to store uninstalled tags, and makes it easier to keep matching sets together.

What this project demonstrates

A tag order can become a complete equipment-mapping kit

This was more than a sequential valve-tag run. The value came from coordinating three physical identifiers for every logical air-cannon system, manufacturing all 600 pieces consistently, preserving the ranges during packaging, and delivering the project in an installation-ready case.

The same approach can be adapted for air cannons, solenoids, remote I/O points, dust-collector valves, conveyor components, gates, diverters and other systems where the control-room name must match equipment in the field.
