Aerospace Data Matrix Identification Plates and Part Marking Tags

Aerospace Data Matrix Identification Plates and Part Marking Tags

Specification-driven metal Data Matrix plates, serialized identification tags, test coupons and equipment plaques for aerospace manufacturers, government contractors, suppliers and maintenance programs.

NASA-STD-6002 establishes requirements for Data Matrix identification applied to aerospace parts using direct-part-marking methods. Aerospace specifications such as AS9132 address Data Matrix marking quality on metallic parts. Whether an attached plate is acceptable depends entirely on the controlling drawing, contract and technical authority.

Stack of engraved stainless steel code identification plates for specification-driven aerospace and government projects
Example metal tag size, finish and mounting. Aerospace code type, content, placement and verification are produced only from customer-approved specifications.

Projects we can quote

  • Customer-specified Data Matrix equipment plates
  • Serialized aerospace tooling and ground-support-equipment tags
  • Government-furnished-property identification
  • First-article marking samples and test coupons
  • Replacement identification plates produced from approved drawings
  • Variable-code batches for assemblies, fixtures and durable assets

Why this work is RFQ-based

Aerospace marking requirements can control symbol size, cell geometry, quiet zone, contrast, surface preparation, permitted marking processes, location, protective finish and verification grade. We do not substitute a generic ecommerce layout for those requirements. Send the actual drawing or specification so the construction can be quoted correctly.

Available construction

  • .040-inch aluminum
  • 20-gauge 304 stainless steel
  • 1/16- and 1/8-inch 304 or 316 stainless by quote
  • Two-hole, four-hole, adhesive, slotted or custom mounting
  • Rectangular, round and custom-cut shapes
  • Matching, sequential and spreadsheet-driven variable data

Quote checklist

  1. Controlling drawing, purchase specification and revision
  2. Approved encoded data or variable-data file
  3. Human-readable text and logo artwork
  4. Material, finish and thickness
  5. Dimensions, tolerances and mounting pattern
  6. Verification and inspection criteria
  7. First-article and documentation requirements

Frequently asked questions

Are these NASA-approved or flight-certified tags?

No. We manufacture to customer-provided requirements. The responsible program and technical authority determine whether the marking and attachment method are acceptable.

Can an attached plate replace direct part marking?

Not automatically. Many specifications specifically require a mark applied directly to the part. An attached plate should only be used when the controlling requirement permits it.

Can you manufacture unique codes from a spreadsheet?

Yes. We can produce customer-approved variable Data Matrix or QR code batches and matching human-readable identifiers.

Standard customer-supplied QR and Data Matrix tag formats

These existing listings are useful when a 1" × 3" format fits the project. They are physical customer-supplied-code tags and do not include Connected Metal Tags software. Contract-controlled work, specialized verification and custom layouts should be quoted.

Custom Cutouts manufactures physical identification plates from customer-supplied and customer-approved information. We do not assign regulatory identifiers, register records, select the governing requirements, certify a customer's product or guarantee that a generic layout satisfies a contract, regulation or technical standard. Final code content, placement, mounting, material, verification and approval remain the customer's responsibility.
